"Thousands of starfish washed ashore one night. The next morning as the sun began to scorch them a little boy running frantically along the beach began throwing them into the water so they wouldn't die. "Don't bother, dear," his mother said, "what you're doing doesn't make a difference."
The boy stopped for a moment and looked at the starfish in his hand. "It will sure make a difference to this one."
Adopted from a silly little children's story called The Star Thrower, the name of Tiny Stars was chosen by the founder so people would constantly be reminded of this very simple truth. What we do here is not complicated. We focus on the difference we make, not the difference we cannot. We have all heard the phrase, "saving the world one child at a time." Tiny Stars takes that even one step further. By concentrating on catching the predator who destroys thousands of children's lives throughout his or her lifetime, we are able to prevent the tragedy of children becoming so affected by the experience that they themselves become the predator. By breaking this chain of events, we feel like every predator stopped effects generation after generation to come. This focus is the driving force of Tiny Stars, and we will never stop.
In 1997 during a 5 year project in Africa, Jake Collins was thrown into several situations involving traffickers and their child victims. One 8-9 year old girl clutched her arms around him but his promise to help her was never realized. She had been trafficked from Nigeria into Benin to fulfill the large German demand for sex with children. After 30 countries in Africa, and 80 nations around the world Jake returned home to where the real fight begins. A network of undercover agents to bring these predators to justice is the only real solution for this massive issue, so after years of public awareness campaigns and networking around the world to bring this issue to the surface, Tiny Stars has developed into a very focused project to do just that, develop a network of undercover agents.
